2012 FALL TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUTS

Tryouts for Travel Teams

Vikings League registers competitive teams into our Upper House league and into CCSL. In the fall of 2012, the plan is for Upper House to merge into CCSL. Some of these teams also play winter and summer seasons in other leagues, and some of these competitive teams also attend weekend tournaments around Northern California.

There are two ways to find teams during the winter of 2012.

  1. Attend the tryouts or practices of teams and clubs held over the winter.
These tryouts are arranged by the clubs independently.
You can find those teams and clubs here: [ PAGES IN PROGRESS ] : Boys Travel Teams | Girls Travel Teams.
In the fine print for each team is information about where and when to try out.

  2. Send your child to the new Player Combine, March 10th at Crocker Amazon.
(This is different than in previous years.) The players looking for teams will do some drills and play small-sided games together. All participating coaches will attend and scout for players. Each age group will have 90 minutes. More information on the times for each age group will be posted soon.

We recommend considering both options.

When looking for a team, please consider these factors at a minimum.

  • Make sure you are looking at the right age group.
  • Make sure the team has enough players to field a team. This is especially important when looking at a new team; if the team can't register you will end up having to find another team last-minute.
  • Practice times and locations to fit your school situation.
  • Team Strength / Playing Level
  • Coaching Cost and Coaching Credentials
  • Commitment required: number of seasons played per year and number of tournaments attended each year.

Winter Combine Tryouts for Fall 2012 Travel Teams

SF Rec & Park has allocated two fields at Crocker to be used for tryouts on March 10th. These fields were not allocated to the teams – they were allocated to the city’s kids, to the player pool. Rec & Park has asked us to run tryouts very differently this year.

Rather than each team having its own field and time, each age grouping will get 90 minutes apiece. All the kids in that age group who are looking for a team will try out, collectively, at the same time. All the player contact information will be shared by all Upper House coaches who volunteer to participate. Players and their families will be given information about all the Upper House teams. After the tryout, coaches can contact families to ask them to come to your practices for further evaluation.

Coaches, do not send your current players who you are keeping to the tryouts – the tryouts are for players who do not have a team, or who want to look for a new team.
