Forming a New Travel Team

Currently, Vikings League registers competitive teams into our Upper House league and into CCSL. In the fall of 2012, the plan is for Upper House to merge into CCSL. (For more explanation, see here.) Some of these teams also play winter and summer seasons in other leagues, and some of these teams also attend weekend tournaments around Northern California.

You can form a new team, or you can send your players to tryouts for other teams and clubs.

If you are interested in forming a new team, we can assist you in getting seeded into the right strength bracket for your team. We can recommend coaches and/or clubs to pair with, if necessary, though many teams are independent and have volunteer coaches. We can help you look for tournaments to play in.

Perhaps the most important criterion is to be confident your team and its players are at the ability level to compete. Independent teams commonly form by pulling together the strongest players from two or three Rec teams, with one coach taking the weaker players back to Rec. Sometimes a very strong Rec team will start a select team with its strongest players and then recruit and host tryouts.

If deciding between sending players to tryouts for other teams and forming your own team, it’s crucial to keep the registration timelines in mind.
They come fast. Fall 2012 registration process begins in April and continues through May. So if you are forming a new team, please find your players prior to that registration window.
