Coaches of the Year

Every season, the Vikings League acknowledges coaches who have done a great job. These "coaches of the year" are selected by their peers, the ultimate compliment. Below are just a few of the coaches selected.

Luis Serrano, Chivas BU9

Luis has not only coached his team, the Chivas, to the top of their division but has done so with sportsmanship and emphasis on learning, friendship, and joy of the sport. Luis also recently completed the Viking's E/D level clinic.

Luis remarks, "It's been so wonderful all the things that soccer world has been bringing to my life, experiences, challenges and friends. This award has completed my happiness with the game. What does it give to the kids? Friendship!"

Shelli Meneghetti, Lions U14, Spirit U12 and Cougars U10

Vikings Co-President Shelli is our own District 1 CYSA Coach of the Year! In her words "I love soccer, I love team sports, and I love working with kids. I love being out on the field 25 weeks a year with the 54 kids who play on one of my three teams. I've known some of these kids for 9 years now. I love to see the improvement in each individual child and the improvement year to year on how they each work as a team. I love to see the kids grow in confidence, in maturity and self esteem. Coaching isn't only about teaching ball skills, its about teaching life skills - focus, discipline, always giving one's best but accepting some days are just going to be "one of those days" and one needs to shake it off and accept and push forward in a positive way. These kids and the families are an extension of my own family. I am thankful for the people that coaching soccer has brought into my life.

Michael Rosenfeld, Aztecs BU11

Michael is the only Viking's Coach selected three straight years for this award. Way to go Mike! Michael says "I became a soccer coach and a team organizer because my son and his friends wanted to play.

Over the years the kids have taught me quite a few things about the game. Even though my kids may be very serious and intense during the game, when the game is over they let it go, and turn their attention to more important pursuits, like snacks and play dates. Over years of coaching, I realized that my kids enjoy the game more and play better when I give as little advice from the side lines during games as possible. Recreational youth soccer should be all about the youth; we adults are just facilitators."
